great food, chocolate, cheese, berries & a view you’ll never forget!
Coal River Farm is one of the most exciting developments in the Richmond Coal River Valley region. It’s no one trick pony, they’ve combined everyone’s favourite gastronomic delights with modern architecture, stunning views and a cute little farm.
Coal River Farm Restaurant
Walk inside the stunningly modern, yet cosy and comforting restaurant and you’ll see locals catching up for a bottle of wine, families keeping warm with hot chocolate, tourists sampling a cheese platter and enjoying a hearty meal.
The restaurant offers brunch and lunch dining which has been described as “modern Australian” with a farm yard twist”. The focus is on fresh local produce, with many ingredients grown or produced on site. The head chef Sam El’Khoury brings year’s of experience from some of Tasmania’s best restaurants. Popular menu items include leatherwood honey and apricot muesli, fresh scones with jam and cream, tasting platters, smoked wallaby and pork sausage, and lamb shoulder.
The restaurant has arguably the best view in the Coal River Valley. This is due to it’s higher position on the hill side of Richmond Road, lack of inhibiting trees and location directly facing Pittwater. The restaurant seating faces tall glass windows which maximise every bit of viewing potential. You’re going to love spending time here!
Coal River Farm is more than just a restaurant, there’s various facets which all intertwine while being equally impressive on their own.
Coal River Farm Cheese
There is a boutique cheese factory on site, producing small batches of hard cheeses, blue cheese and triple cream brie. This site next to the restaurant and with large glass windows the whole production process is transparent and almost like a working museum.
Coal River Farm are so into cheese that they sometimes run ‘High Cheese’ events. That’s right, think of a multi-year platter filled with cheese and chocolate instead of boring sandwiches. Much better!
In May 2019, Coal River Farm won bronze in the people’s choice award at the ‘Mould’ cheese festival in Sydney – up against many of Australia’s best cheesemakers.
Coal River Farm Chocolate
They also produce gourmet chocolate which not only tastes divine, it looks so amazing you may not want to spoil it by eating it. Examples include chocolate high-level shoes and handbags for Mother’s Day and Tasmanian Leatherwood Honeycomb and milk chocolate filled Easter eggs. These make great gifts or just buy a few to take home and enjoy yourself!
