Every village has that focal point where people can gather for a picnic or attend a village fair or other special event. The Richmond Village Green is a beautiful open space in the heart of the historic Richmond Village which has been a popular picnic and event space for decades.

The Richmond Village Green comprises a large open green space, small flower arrangements around the north and west perimeters, seating and a children’s playground on the eastern side. The children’s playground is rather modern and most young children will find something enjoyable here, mine certainly love it!

Near the children’s playground you’ll also see the Tasmanian Gingerbread shop in the old fashioned cottage on the green. It sells that delightful old-fashioned style gingerbread that will take you back to your childhood.

If you walk up to the fence on the eastern side you’ll get an excellent view of the Richmond Bridge with St John’s Church in the background. Walk down the steps here for a nice stroll alongside the riverbank for a closer view of the bridge.

If you would like to buy lunch and take it back to the village green to eat, we recommend the Richmond Bakery, which is only a 2 minute walk away or Czegs Cafe on Bridge Street.

If you visit Richmond at the right time, you may be lucky enough to attend one of the events at the Richmond Village Green, such as the Richmond Fair, a farmers market or the Christmas carols. These events are a great way to see what’s going in Richmond and enjoy an authentic experience.
